Subhalakshmi Gooptu is assistant professor of world literature at Fashion Institute of Technology-SUNY where she teaches courses on women’s labor history, transnational asian studies, and postcolonial literatures. Her research has appeared in Feminist Review and she is currently working on her first book project Stories Women Carry, which studies the literary, visual and archival representations of postcolonial women’s labor and reproduction. She is currently serving as an NEH fellow for a project that is developing a database to teach working women’s history of New York to undergraduate students. She is also the writing program coordinator and mentors faculty teaching writing and rhetoric to students of fashion, art and design at FIT.
